Unspun engaged NEWSUBSTANCE to help deliver the Ajyal Youth Film Festival’s Closing Ceremony in Qatar. With creative input from the children themselves, the challenge was to capture the Festival’s cinematic spirit and synthesise it into a bold, engaging stage show under the strategic and creative direction of Unspun.
An invited audience of over a 1000 guests comprising Royalty, dignitaries, film directors and children enjoyed the spectacular closing ceremony at a purpose built, beach side theatrical arena.
A brave and breathless piece, utilising c.500 children to help tell the story, the closing ceremony delivered a fitting finale to the Film Festival. The shows crescendo saw a bespoke iteration of NEWSUBSTANCE’s 20 performer human net comprising 13 locals trained over the course of 4 days by our team of 7 UK aerialists, suspended c.40m in the air from a crane in LED wing suits. Choreographed to a driving Arabian score our ‘Avatars’ boomed over the stage executing an elegant, breath taking aerial dance culminating in a sparkling, UV lit final tableau ahead of huge pyro bursts behind them.
