Commission

Mercury Music Prize winning band, Elbow, were heading out on an arena tour. They needed a powerful finale moment that would capture their signature spirit and end every show on a high.

Response

Elbow had skyrocketed from playing small venues to filling large arenas. The band wanted to maintain the intimacy of smaller-scale performances while maximising the potential of expansive arena stages. To do that, they needed their closing moment to feel both powerful and personal – strong enough to captivate fans, create memories and deepen connections.

At the end of Elbow’s set, we released a series of giant illuminated spheres above the audience, sending them floating down in a wave-like sequence. We designed the orbs within larger scenic shades, which meant they appeared to be part of the wider set until the final moment. Each globe changed colour as it drifted into the crowd, where they bounced between fans’ raised hands in a unique moment of spirit and synchronicity.

We try to offer something surprising, and this really delivered. The sphere drop was exactly what we hoped for as an engaging, playful finale and something the fans seemed to really embrace. ”
