Commission
When we were commissioned to create a set of beautiful props for the world premiere of Northern Ballet’s Little Mermaid, we combined delicacy, simplicity and human movement to add a sense of magic to the UK tour.
Response
We set out to complement the elegance of the production with effortless style and a sense of natural organic wonder. We designed a series of detailed, organically-made puppets that would take audiences on a journey beneath the waves.
Manipulated by dancers and crafted from a blend of fine materials, our jellyfish and fish came alive gracefully onstage. Each piece was lit by an ethereal glow, captivating the audience with the magic of an underwater world.
Choreographed by David Nixon OBE and accompanied by an original score played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia, the Little Mermaid opened at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre in 2017, before heading out on tour across the UK.
