Commission

In 2011, we worked with creative agency, M-is, to deliver an ambitious aerial spectacle for the opening ceremony at the Dubai World Cup. Starting from a blank canvas, we worked collaboratively to elevate the nation’s iconic national bird: the falcon.

Response

As a cultural symbol of the United Arab Emirates and national bird of Dubai, the falcon represented the powerful sense of pride and honour we needed to bring to life.  We transformed the iconic creature into a magnificent flying spectacle – a display of hope, grace and creativity that would captivate the audience with its bravery and physical prowess.

Pushing boundaries from ideation to execution, we carefully engineered the bird to simulate natural flight and exude the culturally significant narrative. Suspended from a Dubai Airforce helicopter, the bird glided seamlessly, glowing with light as it soared down the Meydan racetrack and past the royal box and high above the audience
