Kaiser Chiefs’ UK Tour
NEWSUBSTANCE were approached by the Kaiser Chiefs management team to produce the creative concept and production design for their upcoming UK tour.
The design requirements for the stage scenery were to ensure cost effectiveness, whilst being easy to transport and install. This made it possible to scale up or down for different venue and stage sizes, from small arenas to festival stages.
Working with Kaiser Chiefs’ management team, we took inspiration and developed designs from the band’s well-established signature aesthetic, adapting the stylistic approach to create exciting new visuals. The intention was to make a backdrop that spoke to the Kaiser Chief’s catalogue, and convey the humour that is inherent throughout their work.

Developed in our Leeds studio and workshop, we built a modular set that took inspiration from back street garage lockups.
By incorporating a number of free standing elements, the set could be configured differently for a wide variety of environments, without compromising the overall effect. With distressed finishes and graffiti artwork, as well as considered prop features, we were able to provide a playful backdrop for the band to perform against.
