Job Title: Technical Project Manager

Salary: Competitive Commercial Package – To be discussed

Reports To: Technical Director

Contract: Full-time

NEWSUBSTANCE are looking for an experienced technical project manager who will support the operational and technical delivery across a range of existing and new projects.

This candidate must have exceptional project management skills, and experience working on large scale technical projects.

This role would suit someone with design, architecture and strong budgeting experience, with a deep understanding of commissioning. This is an opportunity to shape an evolving project, within a fast-paced environment.



  • Lead the technical delivery across a number of projects, reporting to the director of engineering and working closely with the project manager to update on all deliverables and status for all technical deliverables.
  • Working closely with the senior management team to map key deliverables for each project overall.
  • Drive forward all technical aspects of the project, offering further thinking and technical solutions to deliverables.
  • Lead all technical deliverables and status report meetings.
  • Management of all external technical stakeholder communications with the technical manager.
  • Track budget and resource for the department.




  • Proven success in producing complex projects, events, commissions, co-productions and/or cultural programmes.
  • Exceptional planning, project management skills and communication.
  • Understanding of multi-partner collaboration and delivery.
  • Knowledge of design and technical commissioning processes.
  • Working knowledge of multiple parts of production, delivery and audience development.
  • A strong foundation and operational understanding of CAD design software.
  • Experience in budget/financial management.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and self-administering.
  • Experience of relationship management.
  • Demonstrable producing skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, with speed and credibility, with people at all levels (internal or external).


  • Knowledge of artistic commissioning processes.
  • Understanding of multi-partner collaboration and delivery.
  • Able to strike a balance between creative intent, design development and technical demands.
  • An interest in the creative application of digital technologies.
