NEWSUBSTANCE wins at the 2018 AN Best of Design Awards
What a great end to 2018! We’re pleased to say that our installation ‘Spectra’ at the 2018 Coachella Music and Arts Festival has won Best of Design ‘Lighting – Outdoor’ at the 2018 Architect’s Newspaper Awards.
Spectra is a seven-storey installation that lets visitors to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival journey through its spirals of colour and view the site from an entirely new perspective.
One of six artworks commissioned for this year, Spectra was a site-specific response to the Colorado Desert surrounding Coachella. It explores the relationship between light and landscape as guests scale up to a viewing deck. The multi-coloured windows reflect and refract the sunlight, embathing the interior with intense colour and offering vibrant views of the festival grounds. Once night fell, bright spotlights extended from the roof of the tower into the sky.
The Architect’s Newspaper’s Best of Design Awards is a project-based awards program that showcases great buildings, building elements, interiors, and installations. The jury judge entries based on several criteria – strength of the presentation, evidence of innovation, creative use of new technology, sustainability, and, most importantly, good design.
Thanks for the early Christmas present!
